I quit because of the same reason turin9 quit. I had 2,000+ hours logged on an account and it had got banned awhile back so I finally just let it go. I'm glad I did though, I been wanting to quit for awhile. I'm going to wait for Guild Wars 2.

I stopped playing Guild Wars for about a year - stopped checking GWG - and only logged in to GW about every 2 weeks, just so I wouldn't get kicked from my guild and officer position. At the time, I considered myself "retired." However, I logged in one day just to say hi and decided to try to map some of Lornar's Pass - which didn't work so well, so I looked at some running builds on PVXwiki and saw some of the new skills - some of which I would have to complete much of NF to acquire.

Before I knew it, I was back full time into the game. I found out about this incredible new build - Godmode W/P D Slash. I found out about Assassin's Promise and it's use with the Curse attribute. My interest in the new skills drew me back to my old love for the game. I bought EOtN, enjoyed the new dungeons and the storyline and loved the new PVE only skills. Of course I just HAD to try the new builds in some of my old favorite missions and quests.

Point is: If you ever loved GW and still check in every so often to see what's new or to say hi, there's a pretty good chance that you will eventually get drawn back into the game. So, as I said before - if you're still checking GWG, or logging in to chat with friends - IMO you're not retired. You'll probably get drawn back in just as I did. Heck - I bet a lot of the so called retired players are just itching to get back into the game once many of the PVE skills get reverted.

That said, I find it hard to "retire", per se, from Guild Wars. It's not like you're paying to play or anything. Log in whenever you want. If you're bored, oh well.
Malice cancelled his sub to AoC? I heard it got a mixed reception, but damn. Too much hype?

I'm not retiring from Guild Wars soon, it's a good distraction. I just find some of the stuff a bit repetitive (don't suggest PvP, I can't, I just can't), but finding new builds and new toys make it enjoyable. To be honest, I need more friends online to have more fun.

If I get bored playing, I do something else. Reading mostly. I've got American Gods to finish before I can get Descent of Angels, then it's either Legion, the Vampire Wars or Smoke and Mirriors; or maybe something from Lovecraft.

Edit: Shows how much I know, I thought Aion was out already >.<

This might explain why everyone without proof of purchase was sumarily kicked from the forums...they didn't want us to chat with friends and find out it was crap. Nothing to do now but wait for Aion and GW2.

And Starcraft 2 of course, the sequel to Jeff Strain's best work. Too bad he's not working on that. That's the down side of him being with ANet now, SC2 won't be as good.

I am retired, stopped playing a couple of weeks ago and I only check our guru if I am really bored. I have no desire to play again.

as you said, "IMO". Not a fact, so quit pushing it as such and deal. Michael Jordan was retired multiple times. It happens a lot in sports. Yeah, "retirement" might not be a good term, considering it's not a paying job(unless you are with rawr or sms), but in the context the OP is using, it's ridiculous to say you can't read about, or have an opinion of, GW just because you don't play it, anymore.

There are plenty of people on here who have stopped playing regularly, and they just check into the game, or on here, to see if anything has changed significant enough for them to come back. The fact that so many were ready to jump to AoC, a subscription-based game barely out of beta, including many who know PvP and PvE inside and out, and were vocal about it, gives to the fact they are "retired". They would rather shell out cash and time to another game than waste their hours on this one.

Coming on here doesn't mean you still play regularly. Guys retired from the military still go to the VFW/American Legion and talk about their careers, and show interest for how the services are today. The ex-players just can't see wasting time playing a game, anymore, when they have done everything they find worth playing.

I'm retired. I still log on to TS to talk with my friends, but other than that, I just can't bear to play the game no more. I play PlaneShift now. Not as great as GW once was but, pretty good. Ahh I remember the days when I played GW just for the story, not for some stupid fame, skills, or money. Worry, stress and plan free playing. Those were the days.

Meh, I'll probably quit until GW2 once I level up my derv to 20 and play him a little. I might go back to World of Warcraft and get my hunter from 62-70 as I couldn't bring myself to do it the first time because of the massive amounts of exp needed.

Yeah....maybe do some open betas along the way.

EDIT: I'm promoting soon so I hope to get Rock Band for XB360 and if I do, it'll keep my attention for a good month +

OR if I get EotN I'll get back into it.
